About Me

Jim-RobertsMy name is Jim Roberts. I’m a Catholic blogger and aspiring author. I live near Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I grew up. I come from a Catholic family, and I have two younger siblings, a brother and a sister.

I studied political science at the University of Michigan, law at Cornell University, and creative writing (nonfiction) at Western Michigan University. I’ve worked in public policy, politics, and the legal world. I also spent some time helping care for my mother, who died from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2008.

I’m a conservative Catholic, though I’m becoming more of a traditionalist with each passing day. I love the Tridentine Latin Mass, particularly its silence, reverence, and sanctity. For several years I discerned a possible vocation to monastic life, after discovering the writings of Thomas Merton. I visited several communities, including the Carthusians in Vermont, where I discovered the beauty of the Latin liturgy. As for my vocation, I’m still listening for God’s voice.

About MeIn addition to Catholicism, politics, and economics, my interests include European history and astronomy. I’m a fan of The Great Courses series of DVDs, and I’ve studied everything from American literature to modern physics to Greek philosophy. I’m an avid fan of silent film comedies of the 1920s, and I’m a card-carrying member of the International Buster Keaton Society, also known as the “Damfinos.” Two years ago I took up the sport of curling—which is much harder than it looks!

My immediate plans include starting a master’s program in theology and/or philosophy.
